The Work

THE CHALLENGE
The San Joaquin Valley’s vast resources are often overshadowed by its persistent problems, such as its air quality, which is among the worst in the nation. The other problems -- poverty, environmental degradation and social separation -- indicate consistent under-performance compared to other regions in California.

  • Average per capita incomes are 32.2 percent lower
  • College attendance is 50 percent below average
  • Violent crime is 24 percent higher
  • Access to health care is 31 percent lower (based on number of primary care physicians)

THE OPPORTUNITY
Through collaboration on a scale that has not been done before, the Partnership has brought together experts and leaders committed to the same purpose: sustainable economic development, environmental stewardship and human advocacy. This is a unique opportunity to provide a world-class region with a diversified economy, a healthy environment and a high quality of life for all residents.

  • Cutting-edge, state-of-the-art, renewable energy systems to support communities and industries
  • Mobility for people and commerce in new ways
  • New model of economic development that supports agriculture and a healthy environment with clean air and plentiful, clean water
  • Diversified, globally competitive economy with skilled workforce
  • PreK-12 public school system that supports student achievement and prepares children for success in college and career
  • High-quality, accessible health and human services
